Classical and Baroque Music

Today in music class, we had to distinguish the differences between baroque and classical music. 

DIFFERENCES:
There was as a small difference in the instruments they used. 
Baroque composers used counterpoint, which meant two or more independent lines of music were being played above or below a given melody.
Classical music was more formal, while baroque music was very complex, highly tonal, and polyphonic.
Classical music was more depressing.
Baroque composers used harpsichords, while classical music composers used pianos. 

BAROQUE (1600-1750)
They used counterpoint: one or more independent melodies added above or below a given melody
Baroque music’s main instruments:
There were four sections. String, brass, wind, keyboard (organs, harpsichords)
Lute, violin, viola, cello, double bass, trumpet, horn, sackbut, recorder, flute, oboe, bassoon, organ, and harpsichord. Occasionally, they used lesser-known instruments.

Famous baroque music composers:
Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell, Monteverdi

CLASSICAL (1750-1820)
Classical music’s main instruments:
There were four sections. Melody, rhythm, texture, and timbre.
Trumpets, horns, clarinets, tuba, harps, violins, violas, percussions, pianoforte, flutes, oboes, bassoons, French horns, trombones, cellos, double bass


Famous classical music composers:
Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky
