Genocide - Why Does It Happen And What Can We Do?
Genocide is caused by a person or a group of people’s hate of a certain race or religion. For example, the Hutus with the Tutsis and Adolf Hitler with the Jews. Several events lead to genocide. The Rwandan Genocide was caused by the build-up of hate between the Hutus and Tutsis and the assassination of President Habyarimana. Since the Tutsis were the scapegoats for every problem. Therefore, when President Habyarimana’s plane was shot down, the blame was put on the Tutsis. We can try to stop genocide from happening by giving the right education to everyone and improving the quality of life, especially in developing countries. Poverty is one of the main factors of genocide. In countries that struggle with poverty, there is often lack of education in people, and the quality of life in those countries is unsatisfactory. Preventing genocides will decrease the number of mass killings, destruction of races and religions and countries. If we ignore genocides and conflicts, then hatred, blame, and unnecessary deaths will continue to spread.
